Weather Diverts NY Flights To LVIA

Posted: 5:23 pm EST December 1, 2010

It was a full house Wednesday at Lehigh Valley International Airport near Allentown as bad weather and back-ups in New York trickled down to the tarmac. LVIA said the delays weren't that bad and advised anyone picking up or dropping off passengers to check flight information before they go to the airport. Twelve planes were diverted to LVIA from La Guardia, Newark, and JFK because of congestion in the New York airspace. "Right now, it is still very congested," said LVIA's Susan Kittle. "It will take a little while to get everything under control there." The wait time on the tarmac was a couple hours. Some New York-bound planes took off, while passengers from other flights were bused to their destinations. Local passengers inside the terminal were watching and waiting out delays of their own. "I had to call my pick-up in Orlando because it's late," said Kathryn Hunter. Weather all along the eastern seaboard backed things up for flights to Chicago, Charlotte, and Detroit. Natalie Lakatosh and her boyfriend, Albert Wright, had the same attitude as some other delayed travelers. The wait gave them more time with loved ones. "If we had known we were gonna wait, we would have brought the whole family," said Wright. "There are about 20 of us together all week." Copyright 2010 WFMZ. All rights reserved.
