New Release Date Set for Universal's THE THING Prequel

We announced just a week ago that Universal's THE THING prequel was in set back mode as the original release date (April 29th, 2011) was taken off the schedule. We were left with a huge question mark as to when the prequel would see the light of day. Today we the answer and the date is an interesting one...

Follow up:

Universal has smartly put the film in the countdown to Halloween slot of October, 14, 2011. Of course horror films tend to do better during that time of the month and studios are finally starting to realize that. The only problem here is Universal's putting a lot on the line because it will be competing with other horror film releases during the month of October. The already established phoneme PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 is due out October 21 and the highly anticipated DIBBUK BOX is coming in on the 28th. A jam packed lineup and a month that will surely see even more action as we get closer to the date.

This does tell us that Universal at they very least believes they are sitting on a good film here or they wouldn't put it up against such heavy competition. Time will tell and fans of the John Carpenter original will wait in skepticism but with hope they are right. As always stay tuned for more news as we get it.
